Divorce mediation – A Planned Approach To An Amicable Resolution
Sandrina May 16th, 2007
Divorce mediation, focuses on pre-divorce decision making, divorce restructuring, and post-divorce recovery. This implies that divorce therapy is a goal-directed process, aimed at constructive divorce procedures which assists both parties in attaining closure and aims at benefiting the larger system where children may be involved , allowing effective communication to take place through optimal co-parenting skills in future where the children are concerned as a first priority.
For the couple who are unable to remain in the relationship for whatever reason, the conclusion becomes DIVORCE there are two alternatives all dependent on the amicability of the separation and whether children are involved.
Should children be involved the ideal and most appropriate form of separation would be a mediated divorce, whereby both parties sit with Dr. Haeck and conclude a way forward for their co-parenting relationship. The divorce agreement once agreed by both parties, is then forwarded to an attorney that Dr. Haeck has specially selected for this particular intervention. She then proceeds with documentation for the finalisation of the divorce and assists in the legal portion of the proceedings in an effort to minimise the impact on both the children and the finances during the process.
Going forward, Dr. Haeck assists the divorcing couple to resolve ambivalence, fostering autonomy and self esteem as a separate individual along with parenting skills for both as co-parents. The children of the divorcing couple are usually involved in the process of therapy in an effort to understand where they are emotionally prior to the divorce, during and after the divorce, in an effort to assist them to adjust optimally to their new environments.
For couples who are at loggerheads, the alternative is that Dr. Haeck suggests to the couple an appropriate attorney in an effort to assist their case optimally. This more often than not occurs between parties that are unable to settle out of court as well as parties that don’t have children in their marriage.
The average divorce mediation session is 90 minutes in duration at any point.
